Menlo-Atherton High School, Building G
Atherton, California
Sited in the beautiful community of Atherton, this project is the first of a three-phase expansion as the school grows from a population of 2,500 to 3,000 students. The identified site for this project replaces 11 mid-century bungalows with two-story construction.
The school community desired for the building to define a courtyard for students to use both educationally and at lunch, while maintaining a visual connection to the existing basketball courts to the west. The solution is a ‘U’ shaped building that features a suspended second floor to create an open social space for students to mix and mingle below. Classrooms feature shared ‘think tanks’ for collaboration, integrated technology and full-height writing surfaces. Operable windows allow the single loaded building to naturally ventilate and maximize daylight for enhanced student performance. The building will meet CHPS designed criteria.
