A Classic Brutalist-Style Office Campus of Bold Exposed Concrete is Modernized for the Current Market

In the heart of Palo Alto, a collection of three office buildings was efficiently reimagined to create a new public presence for the campus. A new main lobby entry portal was developed along a new promenade, the campus amenity pavilion was converted into a fitness and conference center, and outdoor spaces were activated for collaboration and socializing, establishing a new identity and welcoming environment for tenants.

The new campus courtyard includes a promenade and flexible breakout spaces, creating outdoor workspaces tied to the conference center. To add warmth, metal panels and wood cladding were added to the building façades. Operable glass walls provide direct indoor/outdoor connections.

LPA’s integrated team included architects, landscape architects, engineers, interior designers and lighting and furniture specialists. The campus landscaping was re-envisioned to amenitize the site, while also creating intuitive wayfinding and accessibility. Over 100 existing trees were preserved and provide shading for the new outdoor social and collaboration spaces. The landscape areas were updated with water-efficient irrigation, drought-tolerant landscape and low-impact development storm-water treatment strategies to create safe and sustainable environments.
