Edwards Lifesciences Campus

Irvine, California

The landscape design at Edwards Lifesciences corporate campus is a model of sustainability, using a combination native and drought-tolerant plant palette throughout the site. The campus includes two 30,000-gallon tanks—one of the largest rainwater harvesting tanks in Orange County and the first commercial rainwater harvesting system for in the city of Irvine.

The tanks capture the stormwater on-site and allow reuse of the water for landscaping purposes. The site combines it’s native and drought-tolerant plant palette with a high-efficiency irrigation system—including state-of-the-art “smart” controllers—providing a system that requires 50 percent less water than baseline designs. Throughout the site, there are also bioretention planters that collect and clean the water before it enters the storm drain system.
