Fire Station 20
Irvine, California
Orange County Fire Authority's (OCFA) new 12,500-square-foot Fire Station 20, near Irvine’s Great Park, occupies a 1.25-acre corner site of the Ridge Valley Road and 8th Street infrastructure development area. The building has been situated to maximize drive aisle efficiency for the three apparatuses that it houses and provides for parking and site utilities that are integrated into a native landscape palette. With work areas and living areas strategically saddled to either side of the large app bay, a “dirty-side/clean-side” organizational concept allows for quick access of essential areas while on call and comfortable occupation of residential and business areas while maintaining the station.
Interior features include nine fire fighter dorms, as well as an exercise room, kitchen, dining room, training classroom, instrument room, crew/captain offices, public lobby and all associated storage/equipment areas. Exterior features include an emergency generator, fuel storage tank canopy, trash enclosure, short/long term bicycle storage, BBQ patio, and an integrated CMU site wall.
