Sand Canyon Business Center

Irvine, California

Freestanding pavilion provides focal outdoor amenity for twin office buildings

This expansion of the newly revitalized 16.2-acre Sand Canyon Business Center includes two four-story office buildings with a total floor area of more than 210,000 square feet. The buildings are designed to offer flexible floor plates for modern, open-office work environments that allow employees to better communicate and collaborate.

The two rectangular buildings are offset from one another to optimize views to the outdoors. Both structures are clad in continuous glass curtain walls with metal panel accents. Featuring a rigorous mullion pattern, all windows include floor-to-floor, high-performance glass that maximizes daylighting without suffering interior heat gain. Mechanical and electrical systems—which include energy-efficient HVAC, low-flow plumbing fixtures and advanced lighting controls—work together to create sustainable workspaces that are both comfortable and healthy.

A freestanding pavilion provides an active outdoor amenity. Located between the two office buildings and surrounded by landscaping, the steel-post structure uses slat-wall sunscreens to shape impromptu gathering areas. Contemporary furnishings, pendant light fixtures and several food prep areas give workers a safe haven to relax and socialize. A firepit and ping-pong patio round out the package.

This expansion completes the original master plan of the business center, bringing it up to approximately 675,000 square feet of leasable office space.
