Cordova Community Pool
Rancho Cordova, California
The Cordova Community Pool Replacement's design is based on it's connection to water. The site itself is located in a park adjacent to the American River and is surrounded by a man-made pond.
The entry sequence to the facility mimics the flow of the American River as it fills a series of reservoirs and spills over the associated dams as it flows from the Sierras to the Sacramento Delta. The focus of the facility are on the two new pools: one lap-pool and one recreational pool with beach entry and water play features. The plant palette is based on reedy and grass-like plants you might find at water's edge. The design also repurposes an existing inset river cobble wall as a project monument and beacon.
