College of the Desert Athletics Complex

Palm Desert, California

The Athletics Facilities at the College of the Desert is an exciting and lively place to see and be seen, where students can work out, hang out and relax in a sustainable design. The multifaceted project includes the renovation of an existing 7,000-square-foot building into a student fitness facility, the construction of a new 35,000-square-foot competition gymnasium and a new, six-court tennis complex.

The LEED Gold-certified athletic complex includes a reimagined quad that connects the fitness, gym and tennis courts with drought-tolerant landscaping and connecting walkways. The competition gymnasium includes two recreational cross courts, 1,200-seat bleachers that preserve floor space, a two-story atrium lobby, concessions, storage and locker rooms that meet the needs of both the academic and athletic programs. The existing shower and locker building was remodeled to house the new fitness facility, with a weight room and two multipurpose rooms for aerobics, spinning and dance.
