College of San Mateo Bulldog Aquatic Facilities

San Mateo, California

The College of San Mateo wanted to replace their existing swimming pools—which were more than 40 years old—with a new, modern aquatic center. The new aquatic facility provides modern aquatics programming that includes competitive swimming, water polo, fitness, training, adaptive learning, health and wellness education, and recreation programs for the college and surrounding community.

To accommodate these programs, the facility features two independent swimming pools. The first pool is a 20-lane, 50-meter, Olympic-sized pool that can accommodate up to 120 swimmers. The second is a shallow water pool meant to serve and support additional programs not served by the competitive pool. To provide superior water quality, the pool was designed with a fully automatic, high-rate sand filter system and chemical control systems. The center is equipped with energy-efficient mechanical systems that provide the greenest operation.
