Arcadia High School

Arcadia, California

The Arcadia High School project was phased over six years and consisted of significant new construction and modernization projects. Arcadia HS consistently ranks in the Top 1% of all US High Schools and Arcadians are proud of their educational system. The goal was to re-image the campus as a collegiate environment that reflects the challenging and rigorous college-level coursework, a continued source of pride for the community. The facilities upgrades include a new two-story student services building, a new science building, a performing arts center, and a renovated stadium.

This school for 3600 students responds to the environment, weaving together interior and exterior spaces that result in a series of outdoor rooms. Parallel classrooms bars connected by a central circulation spine orient to maximize natural daylight to the north and minimize heat gain to the south. The materials of brick, metal panel, smooth plaster allow each of the new buildings to play a distinct identity in creating a collegiate high school campus.
