LPA’s San Antonio studio was recently named Green Project of the Year by the San Antonio Business Journal, as part of the annual Building San Antonio Awards.
The firm’s integrated design team provided new life to a long-vacant industrial space on a busy city street, creating a collaborative, open office with energy monitoring, daylighting and innovative indoor air quality and water strategies.
The 10,300-square-foot project is tracking LEED Platinum, with the installation of a 43-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system. The PV system, which includes a solar canopy over parking stalls, offsets more than 50 percent of the total energy use. Other sustainable features include access to natural daylight, 100 percent LED lighting fixtures with controls, energy monitoring and low-impact site development techniques. A large percentage of the existing walls, flooring and ceiling were reused, achieving LEED Interiors Life-Cycle Impact Reduction standards.
“We invested in the sustainability of our workplace to demonstrate to the community-at-large just how important, easy and cost-effective these strategies can be,” said Mickey Conrad, Principal at LPA.
