Industrial aesthetic defines new headquarters for tactical gear retailer

5.11 Tactical is a fast-growing, U.S.-based company that creates high-performance tactical gear, uniforms, clothing and equipment for safety personnel, military and outdoor enthusiasts. The design of their headquarters converted a 20,000-square-foot industrial building into a progressive workplace that includes offices plus a showroom, company store, product display areas, design studio and lab, canteen, fitness rooms and employee showers.

Designers capitalized on existing building elements to create an industrial aesthetic. Spaces feature exposed wood joists, foil-wrapped insulation and spiral ductwork—all selectively highlighted by direct and indirect lighting. Within the open office area, suspended camouflage netting adds a personalized touch over workstations. Metal casework and steel-gray accent walls further reinforce the company’s heavy-duty image.

To emphasize the company’s identity, high-impact branding greets visitors in the lobby space and carries throughout the facility. “Geared-up” mannequins and big-screen monitors put the company’s product on full display, and signage pops up at strategic locations along hallways.

From a functional perspective, the multipurpose spaces are defined by operable glass partitions that allow for maximum flexibility, essential for the client’s diverse needs. Polished concrete floors blend sleek appearance with long-term durability.
