Topping off ceremony commemorates progress in construction of $1 billion campus expansion, which will create a new health and wellness village model for patient-centric care of the future.

Construction crews recently hoisted the final steel beam atop the Cancer and Digestive Hospital Pavilion and the Women’s Hospital Pavilion at Hoag Hospital Irvine’s Sun Family Campus, a key step in the construction of the $1 billion hospital expansion project. Designed by LPA Design Studios, the new pavilions represent the central core of campus that will transform healthcare delivery for communities across South Orange County.

The event featured a traditional beam signing and topping-off ceremony, attended by Hoag leaders and staff, LPA designers, contractors, donors and volunteers. A small evergreen tree was placed on the highest beam, signifying the project’s perfect safety record and symbolizing good luck for future visitors.

“This is a major milestone in one of the most exciting healthcare projects in Southern California in decades,” said Muhsin Lihony, Principal, Director of Healthcare at LPA. “Hoag’s visionary leadership and LPA’s integrated, evidence-based design approach are reshaping the region’s access to advanced, patient-centered care while setting a new standard for the future of health and wellness facilities.”

The Hoag Hospital Irvine Expansion reimagines the modern healthcare campus, emphasizing patient and staff access to nature and inpatient and outpatient care in a convenient pedestrian friendly setting. With six new buildings, 155 inpatient beds and 120,000 square feet of ambulatory facilities, the campus expansion creates a health and wellness village that is focused on providing a high-quality patient-centric experience.

LPA’s design integrates daylighting, gardens, and outdoor terraces as essential elements of the healing environment, reflecting the connections between behavioral, spiritual, physical and ecological health. High-touch, natural materials such as travertine stone and wood tones blend with high-tech curtainwall glass to create a balanced, welcoming environment.
