The Cove at UCI Applied Innovation

Irvine, California

The Cove is a 31,000-square-foot collaborative work and event space located in University Research Park at University of California, Irvine (UCI). The space was created for inventors and entrepreneurs.

The design team took an existing office tenant space and created a flexible, energetic environment with 277 multimedia screens. The space carries a coastal theme throughout with window graphics of waves, blue LED accent lighting and earth tone colors for flooring and cabinetry.

Within the open ceiling, there are acoustical panels and suspended surfboards angled toward the speaker’s platform to create a perspective for the audience. The Cove includes spaces for the following areas: discovery disclosure, prototyping, funding, incubation and acceleration. UCI Applied Innovation is bringing together campus-based discoveries with business communities to support job creation and economic growth.
