A Skilled Trades Haven In a Once Industrial Campus
On the southwestern edge of Tyler Texas, a once utilitarian series of warehouses were purchased by Tyler Junior College with the ambitious goal of creating a hub of skilled trade, regional training and extended learning. LPA worked closely with the College and its user groups to develop a multi-phase facilities masterplan that will transform each of three facilities and adjacent sitework to a community facing facilities that “conveys world class from the outside to the inside”. Fundamental to the design was an implementable, scalable approach that prioritizes offering a diversity of spaces: training, studying, respite, recreation, fitness and social spaces support core teaching and learning environments.
