New plaza and lobbies reenergize pair of tech-sector office buildings

Fashion Island is a two-building, 276,000-square-foot office complex located in the heart of Silicon Valley. New owners wanted to create a fresh identity for the 1980s complex to better attract tech companies in the competitive market. Challenges included a confusing site entry with low visibility, outdated lobbies and inactive outdoor spaces.

To boost the collaborative and innovation areas, an outdoor plaza and indoor common spaces were fully redesigned. Branding strategies were used to mark the office complex as an appealing destination. A new entry drive, including enhanced signage and landscaping, creates a welcoming environment. In the entry plaza that links the two mid-rise buildings, shade structures and low-height walls of wood and stone define outdoor “meeting rooms.” Movable furniture, lush planters and decorative paving further activate these spaces where professionals can collaborate, socialize or enjoy a quiet break.

Interior renovations add a new modern aesthetic to the main ground-floor lobby as well as upper-floor elevator lobbies, corridors and restrooms. These common spaces feature clean lines, polished cement floors and LED linear lighting. Wood accent walls add warmth and link to materials used in the new plaza.
