LPA's Sacramento and San Diego offices participated in Parking Day, an annual global event that encourages citizens to collaborate on small, unique "parks" in an otherwise drab parking space.
In Sacramento, the LPA team approached the "Let's Get Sustainable!" theme in a resourceful way, turning an eight-by-20 foot parking stall into a pedal-powered music box that showcased musical instruments made from recycled and recyclable materials.
The LPA San Diego team reflected the theme of "community" with homage to the vibrant culture of their neighborhood, Barrio Logan, decorating with brightly colored streamers that created visual movement with the wind. Anchoring one end of their structure was an interactive art piece: strips of recycled paper rolled up into chicken wire to form the image of a house.
