Meals on Wheels San Antonio hopes to break ground on a $9.8 million facility in 2021 that will increase the number of meals it can make in a day.

The local nonprofit that provides meals to seniors has a goal to start construction on the 44,000-square-foot facility after first quarter 2021, CEO Vinsen Faris said. Meals on Wheels SA bought the 6-acre property at 2742 Danbury St. near MacArthur Park last year.

The project's estimated total cost is $18 million, which includes the property, facility equipment and the cost to buy a portion of the street from the city so it could be closed. Faris said the project is funded through philanthropic contributions. San Antonio-based LPA Inc. is listed as the design firm on the project, according to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records.
