D. Alex John, Jr. is Design Director of the Dallas commercial studio, where he leads teams focused on creating inspiring architecture that energizes people and connects people to place. Throughout his career, he’s developed a reputation for inspirational projects and an inclusive, collaborative design process that looks to create wins for clients.
He brings a wide range of experience to his role, including transformative work on hospitality destinations, health science facilities, corporate campuses, mixed-use developments and education centers. Earlier in his career, John was part of teams that designed the Conrad Washington, D.C., at CityCenterDC, The City of Dallas Police Academy at the UNT Dallas campus, the Legacy Commons renovation and future expansion, and the development of several corporate campuses in Texas.
As Design Director, John offers a unique skillset, a mix of inspiration and experiences that crosses practices, typology and scale, from boutique urban sites to large-scale mixed-use developments. He has built strong relationships in Texas, creating value for clients by finding new ideas and different approaches. His ability to bring together diverse voices to promote the client’s larger vision has resulted in successful projects that work better for people.
John is an active leader in the Dallas community and serves on the Board of Directors of The Real Estate Council (TREC), the local commercial real estate industry association. The Oak Cliff resident has been involved in the redevelopment of downtown Dallas, as well as a wide range of community projects in South Dallas in the Pleasant Grove and Joppa communities. John also continues to work with mentoring organization Mercy Street in West Dallas through relationships that span most of the past decade.
