Defining Laboratory and Workspace for Molecular Lab Firm

Bridge Diagnostics is a national molecular laboratory focused on a “culture of teamwork, innovation, collaboration, and progressive thinking” to foster scientific progress and technological breakthroughs. The fast-growing start-up was relocating from a 6,500-square-foot building to a 24,000-square-foot office and warehouse space in Irvine, strategically located near the University of California, Irvine, which provides a readily accessible talent pool.

The new facility includes 14,000 square feet of lab space and 10,000 square feet of office space, designed to accommodate different uses and create flexibility for future expansion. Viewing windows were installed in the lab spaces to create a touring path for visitors and put the company’s work on display. An exterior roll-up door was added to provide delivery and shipping efficiency. Electrical infrastructure was installed for flexibility and the ability to reconfigure lab benches and equipment, as needed. Custom millwork with sinks and emergency showers and eye wash were added throughout the lab areas. An existing generator was reused to provide backup for new critical equipment in the lab.

Bridge leadership identified health and wellness as a core part of the firm’s culture. Office spaces were designed to mix functional lab spaces with amenities to help employees relax and grow. A large, multi-purpose break room includes heathy catering options and gaming amenities. The space also serves as the gathering spot for all-hands meetings and corporate events. An open locker room for lab employees supports the firm’s spirit of diversity and inclusion.

The facility was designed to exceed California’s Title 24, with LED lighting throughout.
