A Texas Community’s New ‘Living Room’

Pflugerville’s new city hall sets the foundation for the Austin suburb’s emerging downtown district, Downtown East, which will eventually include housing, retail and a hotel clustered around a public plaza and new recreation center. Part of a public-private partnership led by Griffin|Swinerton, the 104,000-square-foot, four-story City Hall will create a transparent center for civic life in the community. Designed as the community’s “living room,” the facility includes city council chambers, a café and rooftop public terrace that will provide value-added public space.

The central lobby links the plaza, city hall and an adjoining café to Gilleland Creek and 56 miles of trails, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. With an emphasis on adaptability and efficiency, the fourth floor can be leased or used for future public needs.

We are adding a new place that feels like the heart of Pflugerville … where we can gather, celebrate and connect. It’s about family creating memories in our plaza, neighbors meeting for coffee, children laughing and nature-inspired playscapes.”
