El Rancho High School
Pico Rivera, California
The El Rancho High School, aka “The Ranch,” was originally constructed in 1952. This aged high school no longer meets the needs of today’s learners. LPA was selected to help transform the Ranch into “The best learning environment in the country, second to none.” This lofty goal established in the District’s Facilities Master Plan became the mission for the LPA design team. The solution for this phased reconstruction features a flexible six classroom learning suite that promotes multiple modes of instruction in a variety of settings. The learning suite includes an open collaboration space adjacent to the classrooms. The teachers will not “own” their classrooms and are co-located in a separate staff suite to encourage collaboration. The school is designed to meet sustainable goals of LEED Platinum, WELL Platinum and Net Zero energy consumption.
