Crown Valley Park Community Center
Laguna Niguel, California
The project consolidates and replaces the City’s 40 year old recreation center into a modern and cohesive building that provides a vast array of community oriented program spaces. The City’s desire to make the existing swimming pool the key feature of the design drove many of the early space planning concepts. The sloping project site further bisected the building program into 3 categories: Wet program, Active program, and Support program. The lowest level of the project is the ‘Wet’ Level where all of the support functions of the pool are located. Everything from new ‘resort’ style locker rooms, family locker rooms, pool storage, aquatics management offices, and lifeguard locker rooms can be found on the lowest/pool level of the project.
The main level, at grade with the parking lot and project entry, contains the active meeting rooms. Meeting rooms are designed to be flexible and are provided at many different sizes. A large divisible banquet room can seat up to 300 people and is supported by a catering kitchen. A room for dance classes with a sprung wood floor holds 20-30, depending upon the class being taught. There is an art studio with room for up to 30 people.
