Cambridge Elementary School Renovation
San Antonio, Texas
This historically significant building in Alamo Heights is home to one of two elementary schools serving AHISD. LPA has worked on this campus over several bond cycles updating classrooms, replacing existing circa 1950s windows with insulated glass and providing sustainable upgrades such as a solar array on the roof and mechanical and electrical system enhancements.
As part of the Master Plan, a new Fine Arts building was created to replace the undersized and inefficient spaces that previously housed the campus’ robust Orchestra program as well as Art and Music classrooms. LPA worked with Alamo Heights ISD district, educators and students to design the new 9,500-square-foot Fine Arts Addition with learning spaces for Orchestra, Choral and 2D Visual Art. As part of the new learning spaces, collaborative circulation spaces were incorporated as a student gallery space, giving the students opportunities to celebrate the arts. Another facet of the project scope was to create staff parking across the street and construct a new playground in the old parking lot’s place. A linear park was developed to link the new parking to the main campus and offers the community a safe place to walk and play
